at ACT/Thunder Road
Banquet of Champions

Vermont’s Brent Dragon become the 40th winner of the prestigious MacTavish Award at the annual Banquet of Champions on Saturday night, January the 10th, at the Sheraton-Burlington Hotel & Conference Center in South Burlington, VT.

The award named for legendary New England racer Don MacTavish, who lost his life racing at the Daytona Int’l Speedway in 1969, made Dragon the third member of the first family of racing in Vermont to be honored with receiving the MacTavish, following wins by his father Harmon “Beaver’ Dragon in 1979, and uncle Bobby Dragon in 1983.

The top teams from all ACT and Thunder Road divisions were awarded trophies and year-end bonus checks totaling over $60,000.00 for their 2008 racing contributions. Over 500 team members and fans celebrated with the award winners.

Brent received the award for 5th place in the ACT points battle.

The 2009 season for the American Canadian Tour kicks off at the Lee USA Speedway in Lee New Hampshire on Sunday April 19, 2009. Thunder Road celebrates its 50th season with the 11th annual Merchants Bank 150 over the weekend of May 03, 2009. The Chittenden Bank Milk Bowl is a three-segment, cumulatively scored race that awards points in each 50-lap segment – 1 for first, 2 for second, etc.  The finish of each segment is inverted to begin the next, and the driver with the lowest three-round total score is the overall winner.  Top prize is $10,000 and a kiss of the beauty queen – a Vermont dairy cow!  The Milk Bowl is 12th and final round of the American-Canadian Tour Championship;

Coors Light 200 Showdown
Sept. 6 - Autodrome Chaudiere
Laperle Takes $5,000 Showdown Payday at Chaudiere
with Brent Dragon 3rd

Patrick Laperle earned a $5,000 payday at the Coors Light 200 Showdown at Autodrome Chaudiere in Vallee-Jonction, QC on Saturday night, after winning the non-points, all-star invitational stock car event for the U.S.-based American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model Championship Series and the Quebec/Ontario-based Serie ACT Castrol.  Laperle started 11th on the 22-car grid and survived a scrape with Donald Theetge on the 142nd lap, then cruised to the win over Alexandre Gingras.

As regulars of the ACT Late Model Tour, Laperle, of St-Denis-sur-Richelieu, QC, and Theetge, of Boischatel, QC, both represented the 11-car U.S. team and were dicing for the lead when Theetge cut down on Laperle entering Turn 1.  Theetge, the race leader, spun his car and brought out the race’s seventh and final caution period, while Laperle stayed under control.

Gingras of Val-Belair, QC was running closely with Theetge and Laperle at the time, and inherited the lead as a result of Theetge’s spin.  He led lap 143 after the restart, then finished second behind Laperle.  Gingras was the top-finishing Serie ACT Castrol/Team Canada driver in second place.  Brent Dragon of Milton, VT finished third for the U.S team.  ACT Late Model Tour point leader Scott Payea, also of Milton, VT, finished fourth ahead of St-Felicien, QC driver Karl Allard of the Serie ACT Castrol.

Scott Payea, of Milton, VT, led the majority of the race, but raced hard with Montréal driver Laperle during the middle stages, with the pair trading the lead multiple times.  Contact with three laps remaining sent Payea spinning, bringing out the fourth and final caution flag of the event.  For his involvement in the incident, Laperle was sent to the rear of the field with Payea for the restart.  Payea finished 13th with Laperle 14th, the last two cars on the lead lap.

Williams, a part-time ACT Late Model Tour racer, currently leading the championship standings at Barre, VT’s Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl, then drove away from Brent Dragon for the win.  Dragon and fellow Milton, VT native Jean-Paul Cyr finished second and third, respectively.  A pair of New Hampshire natives, 19 year-old Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson and Brad Leighton of Center Harbor, completed the top unofficial top five.

Capital City 100
Brent Dragon 2nd, Leads 77 Laps

Late Model stock car driver Martin Lacombe of Terrebonne, QC won the Toromont CAT 100 at Ottawa’s Capital City Speedway for the Serie ACT Castrol on Saturday night.  The race, delayed for two hours by an unexpected rain shower, was marred by 22 caution periods and lasted two hours and seventeen minutes.

Lacombe, who started fifth on the 28-car grid, recovered from a scrape with leader Jean-Francois Dery of Quebec City during a lap 82 restart, then stretched out to a margin of victory of five car lengths over Milton, VT driver Brent Dragon.  Dragon’s runner-up finish came in his first-ever Serie ACT Castrol start; he led 77 laps before Dery took over.  Alexandre Gingras of Val-Belair, QC finished third over teenager Brandon Watson of Stayner, ON.  Veteran Claude Leclerc of Lanoraie, QC finished fifth.

Vermonter Dragon Wants to Win Ottawa Race for Home Team

Champion Late Model stock car driver Brent Dragon is headed “home” to Capital City Speedway in Ottawa, Ontario for Saturday’s Toromont CAT 100.  But there’s one small thing: Dragon is from Milton, Vermont, 200 miles and an international border away.  In fact, he’s never even seen Capital City Speedway.  So why is it “home”?

Enter Mike and Tom Kenyon.  Through their Kenyon Racing Products company, the Kemptville, ON brothers supplied the Port City chassis that Dragon pilots on the American-Canadian Tour (ACT).  Mike Kenyon is also Dragon’s crew chief, and in fact, Kenyon Racing Products sponsors the weekly Late Model division at Capital City Speedway.  Beyond that, Dragon, an avid big game hunter, spends much of his winter months in the Ontario woods.

Mon. 7/21: Bent placed 7th in the TD Banknorth 250 after charging through the field from a 27th starting position earned as the winner of the 3rd consi.

Brent first appeared in the top 10 on lap 87 and was as high as 4th at the lap 126 competition caution.

The Speedway again fought the weather with a rain delay from 4:00 (just after the final last chance race) until 7:30.

Follow the race as if unfolded at Monday's Speed51 Trackside NOW live update page HERE.

Sun. 7/20: Oxford Plains Speedway struggled to get in the 490 laps of the qualifiers and the feature of the TD Banknorth 250 as rain repeated disrupted the show.

With 86 competitors on hand for 42 starting spots, the racers draw for heat positions and then run six heats, three concis, and three last chance races.

Brent unluckily drew the final starting spot in Heat #5 and could only race up to 5th place. Only the top four advance to the feature from the heat, so Brent will had to move on to a conci.

Visit the 250 Starting Lineup Page
to see the qualifying results and how the starting grid developed.

As of At 8:13 Sunday night, the track pulled the plug on the day's racing with heavy rain again. The event is now scheduled to resume at 2 PM Monday afternoon, starting with Heat #6.

3rd Place for Brent Coming from 24th

Full Oxford Web Story Here
Oxford regular Ricky Rolfe #51 won the race from the pole.
Cyr started 15th and survived early contact with John Donahue to run second. Brent Dragon rallied from 24th to third, with Eddie MacDonald blazing from 17th to fourth. Donahue rounded out the top five.

No telling what might have happened if Dragon had an extra 50 to 100 laps. He won a lengthy duel with MacDonald during the extended green-flag session and found a place on the podium.

"Maybe I should have gone for it earlier, gotten past some of those lapped cars, and maybe I could have run with Jean and Ricky," Dragon said. "It still was a good day coming from 24th. I'm looking forward to the rest of the year."

Season Opener - April 20, 2008
New Hampshire Governor's Cup 100

10th Place for Brent at Lee

The 2008 American-Canadian Tour Championship season opened April 20th at Lee USA Speedway with the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 100 – the first of two doubleheader events for the ACT Late Model Tour and the open-wheel True Value Modified Racing Series this year.

Brent drew a starting spot towards the back of the heat but was making progress towards the top four when a tangle with another car led to a penalty and a restart at the back of the field. That forced a run in the conci where the #55 earned
a 21st starting position (out of 30) for the feature.

At the green Brent began to work his way through the field running with - and for periods ahead of - Patrick Laperle. The
#55 missed several pile-ups and was up to 12th by lap 75 and into 10th as the checker fell.

Joey Polewarczyk’s #97 was the class of the field, at times leading by more than a full straightaway. Rowley, MA
driver Eddie MacDonald won a late-race battle with Scott Payea, Randy Potter, and Cris Michaud to take second-place honors. MacDonald finished fifth in a 150-lap event at Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday night, and flew into New England on Sunday morning. Michaud, of Northfield, VT, finished third from 19th starting position over Milton, VT driver Payea and Groveton, NH’s Potter.

Unofficially, rookie Ricky Wolf, Jr. of Northwood, NH finished sixth. Eric Chase, Patrick Laperle, Ron Henry, and Brent Dragon finished in positions six through ten.

Seven-time and defending ACT Late Model Tour Champion Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT crashed out on lap 4 after contact with Bobby Baillargeon in Turn 3. Neither driver was injured.

The ACT Late Model Tour travels to Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday, April 26 for the New England Dodge Dealers 150. For more information, call (802) 244-6963.

Dragon Files First
American-Canadian Tour
Full-Season Entry

Release by: ACT Staff  - www.acttour.com

American-Canadian Tour (ACT) stock car racer Brent Dragon of Milton, VT has filed the first full-season entry for the 2008 ACT Late Model Tour schedule. Dragon will pilot the #55 Beverage Mart/Furniture World of Vermont Chevrolet, in a new partnership with Kenyon Racing Products of Ontario and Port City Race Cars.

“I’m more excited this year than I’ve been in a long time,” reported Dragon, citing his teaming up with new crew chief Mike Kenyon. “Mike and I talk a lot, even several times a week, and his advice and help has been what I needed. This will be my first year having someone at the track at every race to help set up the chassis, where I was doing most of the work by myself before.”

Dragon finished third in ACT Late Model Tour points in 2007 with a 150-lap victory in June at North Woodstock, NH’s White Mountain Motorsports Park. He also posted a pair runner-up finishes, including at the Spring Green 100 at Plattsburgh, NY’s Airborne Speedway, where he is a three-time Track Champion. The second-generation driver has made it well-known that he would like beat his close friend and rival, cross-town Milton, VT neighbor and seven-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr, for the title.

I want to win a championship before Jean retires,” said Dragon. “It would mean a lot to win one at any time, but it would really be something to finally beat him. His team has it all together, and he’s a great driver. But I think we’re all going to have to keep an eye on Scott Payea, too. He’s so smooth, and that’s what you need to be on this Tour.”

Payea, another Milton, VT product, was the 2007 ACT runner-up behind Cyr, with victories in the Merchants Bank 150 at Barre, VT’s Thunder Road, and the Kancamaugus 100 at White Mountain in August.

The ACT Late Model Tour begins its 17th season of competition at New Hampshire’s Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, April 20, and will make stops at Thunder Road, Airborne, White Mountain, Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine, Waterford Speedbowl in Connecticut, and Kawartha Speedway in Ontario. A special $5,000-to-win all-star invitational event has also been scheduled for Sept. 6 at Autodrome Chaudière in Vallée-Jonction, QC. For more information, call (802) 244-6963 or visit
